Necessary Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Considerable knowledge of the operation of combustion turbines, high pressure boilers, steam turbines, auxiliary equipment, and the controls of each system
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to a power generation facility
- Operate a DCS to control plant equipment
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
- Understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Engage the combustion turbine, HRSG boiler and steam turbine in and out of service
- Startup and shutdown pumps, fans and motors
- Make operational decisions based on observations of the Auxiliary Operators on a variety of motors, pumps, compressors, and related equipment
- Read gauges, meters, and recorders on a DCS and take corrective action when necessary
- Approve and issue Lockout/Tagout
